CIT49900 Reflection # 4

This week was quite hectic as I was still working with the police and insurance company to recover my stolen property. I was able to give the Detective useful information about my stolen laptop and material inside the bag. I spent several hours with the insurance company claims specialist going over financial information. I spent most of Thursday at the auto shop waiting on my window to get replace. This has been one fun week let me tell ya. I really hope they catch the people that did this to my car. I lost all my text books as well, so I have had to come up with money to replace those as well!! grrrr... My new laptop won't be here until March either, so I am VERY stressed. It only took me 3 weeks to set that laptop up just right. I am going to lose SOOOO much time on this :-( I wonder if I can get pain and suffering for it lol. Enough about that though.

Thanks to Dr. Ho I have been able to narrow down my project on comparing US infrastructure to other countries that seem to be more advanced in this area. Dr. Ho informed me that Finland, Dubai, and South Korea would be great countries to look into as far as their infrastructures are concerned. I was also planning to take a look at some of the initiatives that we have implemented in the US as well. Dr. Ho said that we have made allowances for infrastructure improvements in the stimulus bill. I would like to take a closer look at the bill to see what specifically they had put into it. I have found a neat site that posts all of the proposed and passed bills from congress in their original forms as they are reviewed on the floor of the Congress and the Senate. I will definitely be checking out the stimulus bill, and reading it for myself. I am not big on hear say, I have to see things for myself rather than take peoples word for it which is why I don't typically trust the media.

After I have done my research on the bills that congress has proposed or in place, I plan on taking a look at the private sector to determine what kinds of initiatives that they have in place or planned. Dr. Ho mentioned one that Google seems to be trying to get going. Apparently they plan to take a city and turn it completely into fiber connections including running fiber right up to individual houses. I am planning to see if there are any other things like that going on around the country too. I know that there are a lot of geographic restrictions in the US that don't make it financially beneficial to put in an infrastructure. Our mid-west is a pretty good example of this. With sparse populations over thousands of miles, it is hard to justify the expense of putting in reliable infrastructure. I plan on doing much more research on this and I am sure my next post will be full of information about it :-)
